Avignon, une école

What place does Avignon hold in our personal theater mythology? How does it help young actors build their careers? Using the Festival's archives as a starting point, director Fanny de Chaillé combines memory with the present: she invites students graduating from La Manufacture - Lausanne's Haute école des arts de la scène - to replay their own experiences, anthological moments, artists' testimonials, critical views or spectators' words... A living memory of the performing arts, Avignon, une école never yields to the ease of consensus : in so doing, it is faithful to the spirit of a festival that, since its inception, has been the site of fierce debate. This original format is also a way of questioning, not without humor, the inside and outside of culture today, shouting "I was there" or "I wasn't there".
