Angelo, tyrande Padoue

Add to my favorites

Padua, 1549. In 16th-century Italy, Angelo, the city’s tyrannical governor, is also the despotic husband of Catarina. Bound by the constraints of a marriage of convenience, Catarina is in love with Rodolfo, a young man also coveted by Tisbe, an actress and courtesan who is Angelo’s mistress.

Amid oppression, patriarchy, and the intertwining of the private and political spheres, this romantic drama, written two centuries ago, raises issues that remain deeply relevant today. In this adaptation, the minimalist set design highlights the power of Victor Hugo’s words, while the live musical score with contemporary sounds bridges the gap between past and present. A classic text reimagined by a vibrant and inventive artistic team.
