Using documentary archives as theatrical material, Émilie Rousset questions the judicial system as a space for the transformation of speech. Through encounters with female lawyers and litigants in Europe, Family Affairs retraces intimate narratives confronted with the law. Six European actresses and actors re-enact these encounters, the space is filled with the voices and bodies of these stories, and each situation judged questions our entire society. A lawyer specializing in child abduction, an expert in LGBT family law, the Italian father of a child born through GPA, a Mossos d'Esquadra policewoman, denunciations of incest silenced, victories before the European Court of Human Rights... These files show a justice system challenged by the tensions and evolutions of our societies.
