65 rue d'Aubagne

Add to my favorites

How to survive the catastrophe? Mathilde Aurier weaves together individual and collective stories linked to the Rue d'Aubagne collapses, shedding light on the wounds of a city and the strength of its people.

On November 5, 2018 at 9:05 am, two buildings collapsed in downtown Marseille. Uninhabited 63 rue d'Aubagne falls first. In its fall, it drags down 65 rue d'Aubagne, inhabited. It all began with a discussion on a beach in 2022. Mathilde Aurier talks to Nina, who confides in her that she is a survivor of the tragedy that plunged Marseille into mourning.
The discussion continues and new encounters follow, with other survivors, relatives of victims, the Collectif du 5 novembre, residents of Noailles and associations. From all these words, the Marseilles-based author and director has created a text, carried by six performers including La Criée's Jeune Troupe, in which narratives
cross paths and breathe life into the fiction.
The collapse is not just dust and rubble, but also language, fragmented, and beings, shattered. All the administrative violence and housing conditions appear, but also the collective power of those who form a group to heal the wounds.
