Éducation nationale
The Lycée Jean-Zay, in the imaginary town of Virieux-en-Vezon. A new principal takes over the school, shaken the previous year by violent incidents. Against a backdrop of apprehension, several narrative threads are woven. The school climate becomes tense. Faced with the proposed budget for the coming year, the staff decide to go on strike. While they are caught up in unrest, a major occupation movement is set up at the heart of the high school.
The play Éducation nationale, written in residence at a school and involving many students, chronicles the life of a high school and tells the story of a collective struggle. Documenting the state of the public education service at the dawn of the 2020s, it paints a portrait of workers caught up in fundamental movements over which they are seeking to regain control. François Hien and Sabine Collardey offer here an edition of the text enriched with dramaturgical research, investigative materials, theoretical sketches, accounts of experiments... As such, the book will be useful to those who love theater, as well as to those interested in educational issues.
