Chez moi
Chez moi is a search for the home lost amidst the author’s many migrations. It is a journey to Uzbekistan before the fall of the USSR, then to Israel during the Gulf War, and finally to the France of a perpetual migrant’s dreams. A stranger everywhere, she recounts the absurdity of belonging, the choice to not belong, and the price to be paid for these imposed choices.
‘None of this is new; others have experienced this wandering, but each time it happens to a different individual. What gives the narrative its richness is not the general, but the particular. It is the wealth of concrete details, recounted in a highly personal style, subjective to the point of lyrical flight; the pages on the seven-day mourning period are unforgettable.” Volker Schlöndorff
